Camping & trekking in the Himalaya is a wonderful experience. Those of you who have done this in the past will vouch for it. However, we do come across a lot of people who are somehow wary of going to the mountains for reasons more imaginary than existential.

We do appreciate the concerns raised by beginners and first-timers. We also appreciate the expectations of those who have been to the mountains earlier and wish to go again for a better experience. Before joining the Outward Bound Himalayan Program it will be worthwhile to have a proper perspective to help you make your choice with proper understanding and with confidence.

At Outward Bound, we believe that the Himalayan Programs must fulfill the needs, the aspirations and the expectations of our clients when they embark on a Himalayan trip with us.

Category A: Difficulty Level: Easy to moderately challenging.

The Himalayan programs in this category are specially designed for those who are first-timers and beginners. Also for those who wish to have a light adventure with not much of physical exertion, for those who wish to relax and soak in the beauty of the mountains at leisure, for those who wish to explore the elements of nature as a hobby, such as bird watching, exploring the flora and the fauna or indulging in photography or sketching and use of colors.

Individuals, couples & kids above 12 years can think of joining this program. The camp location is relatively easily approachable and the participants stay put at the campsite for the duration of the camp with daily excursions & other planned activities. The schedule is not very hectic and the support system while in the mountains is well defined. Those who are reluctant to carry heavy backpacks can relax and limit their knapsacks to the bare minimum essentials for safety and well being. However, we do not offer any luxuries that defeat the very purpose of these outbound programs.

Some of the finest locations have been identified for these camps. Check with us for more information about the locations for the next program.

Category B: Difficulty Level: Easy to progressively becoming tough.

The Himalayan programs in this category are designed for youth and young adults who wish to challenge themselves by undertaking the mountain hikes with minimum support. The hikes are moderately difficult and sometimes tough in nature. The participants should be willing to carry their own personal rucksacks, set up camps, cook food when needed, should be willing to take the ownership and not shy away when the situation demands so. The daily schedule is time-bound, needs commitment and a high level of energy to get through.

Training programs in this category are designed to bring home some of the leadership aspects essential for personal development. The participants go through a series of activities in the course of the expedition that needs good interaction among the participants, decision making and a sense of understanding to make the expedition successful. The hikes take the participants to high altitudes and depending on the location; the participants climb up to a pass, or climb a nearby peak or go for height gaining through difficult terrain.

The other activities during the hikes are planned as per the season and the terrain keeping in mind the safety of the entire team. Uncertainties in the mountains need good leadership, followership, and teamwork as per the situation. The Outward Bound leaders are competent, experienced and the participants can look forward to a great experience.

Category C: Difficulty Level: Moderately tough.

The Himalayan programs in this category are designed for adults who want to go for the mountain hikes but need support to make things a little easy and less demanding. The support system offers logistic support such as porters to lessen the rucksack burden and also camping support. However, the hiking routes remain easy to moderately tough but challenging. Most of the treks will take you to the high altitude above 12,000 ft. Remaining fit all through should be your first concern.

The schedule is not very hectic but remains time-bound. The travel options allow the participants to plan their travel as per their convenience and report at a predetermined reporting point nearest to the trekking location.

Himalayan programs are planned all around the year. You can send your email expressing your interest in the program well in advance so that we can plan accordingly and keep you updated,
