Leaders are made not born

To become an effective leader, one has to consciously develop leadership skills and qualities to set up the team for success.

As a trainer, personally I do not subscribe to the notion that leaders are born. Some people do believe that leaders are born – not made, and that surely is a myth. Had that been the case, trainers like me would be out of work (on the lighter side). Nevertheless, I do believe that some people by birth are gifted with some leadership qualities and they use them to qualify as charismatic leaders.

However, the fact remains that largely “Leaders are made”. Individuals need to train themselves to become good leaders. People in the organizations by virtue of their positions (Managers) become leaders but many of them do not qualify as leaders for the lack of leadership qualities.

Developing leadership skills and qualities has to be a conscious effort on the part of individuals in the organizations. Those willing to learn must endeavor to develop their own leadership style to become authentic leaders. The circumstances, the people involved and the leaders who are leading find themselves in unique situations and should be able to find solutions to the best of their ability.
